Armenian Russian Comedians
Andranik Mihranyan, one of the `eminent' representatives of the
Armenian community of Russia, head of New York office of the Institute
for Democracy and Cooperation, compared the post-electoral situation
in Armenia to a comedy.
`The Armenian reality is in a comic situation. It is sad when a person
looks funny but it is sad that he makes himself and the country look
funny. We hope that today will end in a comic situation unlike the
past when there were human victims,' he said hinting at Raffi
Hovannisian and the post-electoral developments.
In fact, the Armenian Diaspora of Russia is a tragic thing not only
due to its qualities but also the circumstance that it is a hostage
that Russia uses to put pressure on Armenia. The most humiliating role
in the Armenian-Russian relations is conferred on the eminent
representatives of the Armenian Diaspora in Russia which must keep up
the consciousness in the Armenians that Armenia will not survive
without Russia.
We can remember film maker Karen Shahnazarov who stated in Yerevan
that Armenia has no chance without Russia. One can remember also
dozens of other Armenians, real and `indirect' comedians, members of
parliament, political scientists.
Besides, the eminent representatives of the Armenian Diaspora of
Russia had another humiliating role as well, that is justifying the
Russian imperialistic policy using every possible method. And teach
lessons to their compatriots on the run.
In the meantime, one never hears from these eminent people when
Armenians are killed in Russia on ethnic grounds. At best, they will
say `if they behave themselves, they will not get killed.' These two
are interrelated. If the eminent ones had minimum dignity, they would
never assume the role they perform now, and the Armenians would not
get killed with impunity.
And now the post-electoral situation in Armenia reminds one of those
eminent ones a comedy. Of course, those would remind them a comedy.
For they are busy doing so important things. And their former homeland
and fellow countrymen who want to build a free, independent and
dignified state do not let them enjoy their humiliating role.
