The chief of Armenia's National Security Council (NSC) is taking
charge of a new commission dealing with the protection of human rights.

The plan was unveiled on Friday, at a joint conference held by the
NSC Secretary Arthur Baghdasaryan and Ombudsman Karen Andriasyan.

The commission is expected tackle existing problems in the human
    rights sector.

"The human rights situation in Armenia needs essential reforms,
which we will certainly undertake. We will study the mistakes and
the shortcomings and do everything possible to have an essential
improvement in the sector," Baghdasaryan said, noting that human
rights violations occur in almost all the spheres of activity today.

The NSC secretary added that his agency will closely collaborate with
the Ombudsman's office. "The most important thing are be the results,
which I think will be much better. As for the problems, they will be
resolved through hard and consistent work," he added.

Both officials highly rated the Ombudsman office's role, pointing
    out to the positive changes.

Andriasyan said that the NSC secretary's presence in his office
signals new collaboration potentials. "The results of the National
Security Committee suggest that our people will be given more bread
and justice in 2013," he noted.
