Aram Manukyan: ANC's potential is enough to rescue Yerevan from the
arms of the authorities

The Armenian National Congress Party has enough potential to rescue
Yerevan from the arms of the authorities, Aram Manukyan, MP from ANC
faction, said at the Constituent Congress of the ANC Party, Saturday.
To recall, six parties and a union have submitted their party lists to
run to the Elders' Council of Yerevan: Republican Party of Armenia,
Prosperous Party of Armenia, Orinats Yerkir, Armenian National
Congress, Mission, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, and "Barev Yerevan" Union.
Political parties will fight for 65 seats at the Elders' Council. The
election campaign started on April 7. The elections will be held on
May 5. May 4 is a say of "silence" when campaign is prohibited. The
mayor will be the politician that tops the party list that will gain
majority of votes.
"Armenian Pan-National Movement Party joined the initiative to
establish the Armenian National Congress Party (ANC) and many
influential forces of ANC bloc followed it. Our party comprises also
non- party men members of the bloc. Therefore, the new ANC has
consolidated all those who have been fighting for independence,
restoration of the constitutional order in Armenia since 1988,"
Manukyan said. He recalled that young opposition activists having
their political views that are above their personal ambitions have
also joined the ANC Party. He said that 1813 people have already
applied for members of the ANC. Manukyan is sure that such activity
shows that it was a right decision to establish the ANC Party. The
party has enough potential to become a force able to dictate the
political agenda, Manukyan said.
The ANC Party Congress has commenced at the Sports and Concert Complex
after K. Demirchyan earlier today. Head of the ANC Parliamentary
Faction Levon Zurabyan says 1100 delegates have been invited to the
Congress, with the remaining are guests. The congress agenda
comprises such issues as approval of the ANC's Regulations, programs,
election of the chairman and the Board, as well as the Supervisory
Committee. Representatives of the People's Party of Armenia headed
by Stepan Demirchyan, Hnchakian Social Democratic Party led by Ludmila
Sargsyan, ARFD led by rmen Rustamyan and Prosperous Armenia Party led
by Stepan Margaryan have attended the event.
