YEREVAN MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS: PARTIES' ELECTION PROGRAMS
23:05 ~U 15.04.13
The election programs of five political parties and one election bloc,
which are running for Yerevan's Council of Elders, are hardly different
from each other.
The only exception is the election program of the ruling Republican
Party of Armenia (RPA), which envisages concrete steps.
Tert.am compared the political forces' election programs.
Interestingly, all the forces, including the newly formed Arakelutyun
(Mission) party, pledge the construction of new underground stations.
The ruling party pledges to put an end to sporadic building. Moreover,
it pledges a new plan.
The other political forces point out the need for larger green zones,
better transport and refuse collection.
The Rule of Law party believes the municipal budget must be
socially-oriented, with more free services for the needy.
The party attaches importance to harmonious development of all the
districts and of a more accurate seismic map of Yerevan. The party's
program envisages the need for new lifts in blocks of flats, waste
reclamation and environmentally-friendly technologies. The party
proposes a larger number of public transport routes, which will create
conditions for completing the construction of underground stations.
The Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D) proposes
a ban on housing construction in Yerevan's small center. The ARF-D
pledges to put an end to the destruction of cultural and historical
monuments in Yerevan and to sporadic building. The party's program
envisages the creation of large recreation areas.
The RPA's slogan is Better Yerevan. Its 10-point program envisages
actions until 2017, including the "adoption of a law on construction
in Yerevan's small center." Like all the other political forces, the
RPA pledges high-quality highways and creation of green zones, refuse
collection, roads surface cleaning, purchase of snow removal machines.
The Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) pledges the construction of new
underground stations. With respect to Yerevan's environmental problems,
the party's program envisages environmental standards for a number
of areas in Yerevan.
The Armenian National Congress (ANC) program has two parts. The
first envisages the "restoration of constitutional order in Armenia",
and the second, Yerevan's development.
The Mission party pledges to create a public transport under the
Yerevan Municipality's control, construction of underground stations
in all the administrative districts, fare reduction and free transport
for students and pensioners.
The Barev, Yerevan (Hello, Yerevan) bloc has not yet presented its
program. The bloc informed Tert.am that its program is prepared and
will be presented soon.
