GEORGIAN WINES THREATEN ARMENIAN WINE INDUSTRY
The Messenger, Georgia

The return of Georgian wines to the Russian market has caused concern
among Armenian wine-makers. When the Russian government banned the
import of Georgian wines in 2006 Armenian wines began to fill the gap
in the Russian market. There are also unconfirmed speculations that a
certain portion of Georgian wines were transported to Armenia, bottled
there and exported to Russia as Armenian wine. Armenian vintners think
that the quality of the Georgian wine has become better since 2006 and
that Georgian wines will provide good competition for Armenian wines.
