ON Near East Relief and the Armenian Genocide: An Unprece dented
global service to humanity
Mr. Kelechian will present an illustrated lecture on "Near East Relief and
the Armenian
Genocide: An unprecedented global Service to Humanity. Sunday, April 28,
2013, at 4:00 p.m. at the Ararat-Eskijian Museum, Hasmik Mgrdichian Gallery,
15105 Mission Hills Road, Mission Hills, CA. The lecture is sponsored by
the Ararat-Eskijian Museum and the National Association for Armenian Studies
and Research (NAASR). A reception will follow the lecture.
Maurice Kelechian will present an illustrated lecture focusing on the
tremendous aid and support operations carried out by Near East Relief during
and following the Armenian Genocide, beginning in 1915. This global welfare
organization was led by the United States, and included many offices in
countries like Australia, Great Britain, Denmark, Switzerland, Greece, and
many others. Between 1915 and 1930, Near East Relief administered
$117,000,000 of assistance, which is the equivalent of $1.25 billion today.
Near East Relief is credited for having rescued 132,556 Armenian orphans,
who were housed, fed, taught, and provided with medical care.
Maurice Kelechian is an independent software engineer known for his
surveys of Armenian historical facts, photos, monuments, and heritage sites.
Currently he resides in Los Angeles.
