BAREV, YEREVAN BLOC LODGES COMPLAINT WITH ARMENIA'S CEC

Daniel Ioanisyan, a Heritage party member who is on the Barev, Yerevan
(Hello, Yerevan) bloc's list in the upcoming elections to Yerevan's
Council of Elders, held a meeting with journalists on Tuesday.
He presented the violations the ruling Republican Party of Armenia
(RPA), Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) and Rule of Law party committed
both before and during the election campaign. The Barev, Yerevan bloc
lodged a complaint with the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).
"A few months ago we received information that passports were collected
from people even in Armenia's regions and they were ordered to bring
the passports of their relatives living in Yerevan for them to vote
for the RPA," Ioanisyan said.
He recalled April 7, when flowers were given to women in behalf of the
Yerevan Municipality. "That was said to be congratulation by Yerevan
Mayor Taron Margaryan. That is, it was PR at taxpayers' expense,"
Ioanisyan said.
The Barev, Yerevan bloc lodged a complaint with the CEC last Friday.
At the weekend they noted that the RPA had stopped violating the rules.
"Interestingly, the CEC contacted the RPA before discussing our
complaint. But the PAP and the Rule of Law party were not warned. So
action will be taken against the PAP and Rule of Law party, while it
was the RPA that committed the most violations. This suggests that
the CEC is not impartial," Ioanisyan said.
