Hahn Statement on Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day
WASHINGTON
Rep. Janice Hahn, D-Calif. (44th CD), issued the following news release:
Today, Congresswoman Janice Hahn (CA-44) released the following
statement on Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day:
"Today marks the day, 98 years ago, when more than 300 Armenian
leaders were taken from their homes, arrested and systematically
executed. They were the first massacred in a genocide that would leave
1.5 million innocent men, women and children dead, families broken,
and few survivors. Generations later, families of the victims and
survivors, cannot and will not forget those who were lost and the
families that never came to be, when everything changed on that
fateful day.
I join the Armenian community in my district and around the world in a
moment of reflection as we pay tribute to the victims and survivors of
this horrific genocide that took place not even a century ago. Across
this nation and the world, we share a common humanity, union and
strength that continues to serve us. The memory of the dead and the
legacy of those who survived will forever remain etched in our hearts.
I am inspired by the strength of the Armenian people, so many of whose
lives have been touched by tragedy but have persevered and resolved to
never let history be forgotten. Let us commit to delivering the
Armenian community with the long overdue recognition they deserve."
