THERE ARE 4,780 CONVICTS IN ARMENIA

YEREVAN. - As of July 1, 2013, there are 4,780 detainees and convicts
in Armenia, and this number is 92 more than that in July 1 of last
year.
Deputy Prosecutor General Aram Tamazyan noted the aforesaid, during
the board session of the General Prosecutor's Office, summing up the
data for the first half of this year.
In his words, during this period of time, a total of 834 people were
released from the penal institutions, whereas eight prisoners had
died of various diseases.
As of July 1, a total of 207 women and 27 minors are imprisoned
in Armenia.
Tamazyan informed that no cases of murder and deliberately causing
severe bodily harm were recorded in the prisons of Armenia.
Also, seven of the 155 convicts, who were released on early parole,
committed new crimes.
In the first half of 2013, four convicts, who were serving their
sentences in Armenia, were handed over to Iran and Russia, and one
convict each was handed over to Georgia and to Spain.
As of July 1, a total of 143 foreign nationals were kept in Armenia's
prisons.
