US president accuses Russian counterpart of behaving like 'a bored kid'
16:13 - 10.08.13
The chill in relations between the US and Russia grew frostier still
yesterday as President Barack Obama traded jibes with senior Kremlin
officials, describing President Vladimir Putin as acting like a "bored
kid" in their meetings, The Telegraph reports.
The US president admitted his exchanges with Mr Putin were "blunt" and
said Washington needed to "take a pause" in dealings with Moscow,
after a string of disputes culminating in the Kremlin's refusal to
hand over Edward Snowden, the NSA leaker.
Yet he dismissed claims the row over Mr Snowden had proved him unable
to "get stuff done with Russia" and that his much-vaunted "reset" in
relations with Moscow had failed.
"I don't have a bad personal relationship with Putin," he said. Noting
much is read into their body language in photographs, a smiling Mr
Obama said of the Russian president: "He's got that kind of slouch,
looking like the bored kid in the back of the classroom".
