STEPANAKERT. - A new deposit of natural building stone has been
discovered in Nagorno-Karabakh, adviser to the president of the
Nagorno-Karabakh Republic on geology said.
Grigory Gabrielyants noted that Geological Service of NKR discovered
and explored deposits of marbleized limestone, tuff and dacite porphyry
over the last two years.
"Non-metallic mineral exploration is one of the target programs of
Karabakh government. We have to provide the republic with its own
construction base," he told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
The field of marbleized limestone is estimated at millions of cubic
meters.
"Our state committee on reserves has not made an official estimate
of resources for exploration of non-metallic minerals. Therefore,
we have not yet issued the license. However, the private sector is
interested in this white stone. Due to its characteristics, it can
become competitive not only within the limits of Armenia and Artsakh,
but also on foreign markets," Gabrielyants said.
