Iran Photo Museum exhibits photographs of Qajar era

Iran has displayed a collection of photos on ancient Iranian dynasty
of Qajar during an exhibition held in the capital city of Tehran's
    Photo Museum.

The museum has showcased some 36 photos, which were taken by the
Iranian-Armenian photographer Yusef Khan. The displayed photos feature
the period of the last Qajar crown prince, Mohammad-Hassan Mirza
(1899-1943).Mohammad-Hassan Mirza was the brother of the last monarch
of the Qajar dynasty, Ahmed Shah (reigned 1909-1925). Since Ahmed Shah
had no child, Mohammad-Hassan Mirza was named as crown prince. One of
the Qajar princes, Malek-Qasem Mirza, was the first Iranian who tried
photography in the country. The only other photographer of the time
was Jules Richard, a French tutor who took a picture with a
daguerreotype camera.Iran has exhibited various collections of
photographs depicting Qajar era so far. The photos were taken by the
international artists such as Armenian-Georgian photographer Antoin
Sevruguin, French photographers Felix Nadar and Eugene Pirou, and
Russian photographer Dmitri Ivanovich Ermakov.Qajar photographs were
also displayed during several exhibitions in Italy. The photos were
taken by the Italian photographer Luigi Montabone, who was sent to
Iran by the Italian government in 1862.The art of photography was
introduced in Iran about five years after its invention in 1839 and
during the last years of Qajar king Mohammad Shah's reign.Nasser
ad-Din Shah, who was very interested in the new technology, sent a
number of Iranian students to Europe to learn the art.FGP/FGP
