GENDER EQUALITY LAW IS TARGETED AT ELIMINATING CONCEPT OF FAMILY - PUBLICIST

YEREVAN. - The law on gender equality in Armenia has always been on
the agenda.
Unfortunately, the term 'gender' is gradually changing its true
meaning, chairman of "Reforma" NGO Karine Hakobyan said.
According to her, gender is the difference between woman and man in
social perception.
"The section 1, article 3 of the mentioned law gives the notion of
gender, but the second word 'acquired' gender should not be included,"
she thinks.
The publicist stressed that the Armenian society was faced with a
difficult choice: to choose life, consistency, or vice versa, because
it is a result of healthy relationship that a woman and a man create
a family.
"The laws have a great impact on the social culture. Therefore,
the target of gender equality law is to eliminate the concept of the
family which is a dangerous trend," Hakobyan said during the Tuesday
press conference.
Back in May, the Armenian parliament passed a bill on equal rights
and equal opportunities for men and women. The third article of the
bill was the subject of intense public discussion, including debates
in social networks.
