With the support of the Orange Foundation from here on the inhabitants
of the border village of Vazashen in Tavush region will have a
possibility to get involved in a new branch of agriculture and have
sustainable source of income as a result. This village used to have
about 1500 hectares of grape yards with around 2000 tons of harvest
yearly and a long history of viniculture. However, since 1990s these
lands have not been serving their purpose due to the danger of sniper
fire. As a result, the inhabitants of this village have been deprived
of their main business. In the scope of the agricultural projects
of the Orange Foundation, 7 households received beehives and bees
and were trained in bee keeping, thus having a possibility to get
involved in this new and promising branch of agriculture.
The project has been implemented in the scope of the special program
launched by the Orange Foundation last year, which aims to give a
possibility to Orange Armenia employees to lead philanthropic projects
on their initiative. The grant for implementation of this agricultural
project was awarded to Orange Armenia employee Mihran Babayan from
Finance Department, who spends part of his free time supporting the
"Armenian Santa Clause" NGO . This is already the 4th project in a
row financed based on proposal of Orange employees.
To participate in honey extraction process Vazashen village was also
visited by a group of Orange Armenia volunteers. Though for most of
them the participation in honey extraction process was the first such
experience, they participated in the works with great enthusiasm.
As a reminder, with the support of the Orange Foundation small,
but sustainable development models of agriculture have also been
implemented in Berdavan village of Tavush region and Karmir Aghek
village of Lori region.
For implementation of this project the Orange Foundation has invested
2,960,000 AMD.
