SOUTH CAUCASUS RAILWAYS: FUSS OVER DISMANTLEMENT OF ARTENI SECTION IN ARMENIA GROUNDLESS
YEREVAN, August 21. /ARKA/. South Caucasus Railways Spokesman Vahe
Davtyan told ARKA News Agency today that he found it wrong to make a
fuss over dismantlement of rail track at Arteni section in Armenia's
Shirak province.
On Wednesday, some media outlets reported about allegedly illegal
dismantlement of the rail track that was repaired one year ago.
Reports were savoured with anti-Russian comments ascribed to Arthur
Arakelyan, the chief of the rail station.
Davtyan said that the dismantling was planned beforehand, and this
is confirmed by necessary papers.
Denying allegations in some electronic media reports, he said this
rail track had been restored many years ago, not the last year.
The company spokesman was also surprised that the media quoted Arthur
Arakelyan, since "he never made such comments and never talked to
journalists".
Davtyan said that the company's agenda contains not a single point
for closing Arteni rail station and for cutting jobs here, and the
dismantlement has been prompted by conclusion that one rail track is
enough on this section.
South Caucasus Railways, a 100-percent subsidiary of Russian Railways,
runs Armenian Railway.
Armenian Railways was handed over to the South Caucasus Railways on
February 13, 2008 for 30-year concession management with a right to
prolong the management term for other 10 years. ---0---
