"In view of the 23 August incident on the Armenian- Azerbaijan border
and on the basis of the available data, the Defense Ministry of
Armenia informs in a statement that Azerbaijani snipers wounded
Armenian soldiers from a distance of 700-800 meters.
The Ministry reports that that Azerbaijan tries to destabilize the
state border of Armenia via that tragic incident. "Azerbaijan tries to
destabilize the relatively peaceful Nakhijevani direction and 'remind'
the voters in Nakhijevan 'who they are obliged to for their life and
welfare.' The Ministry reiterates that President of Azerbaijan and his
military-political regime is responsible for the life of an Armenian
or an Azerbaijani soldier. In the context of such developments, the
Ministry stresses the importance of final coordination and application
of the mechanisms of inquiry into the incidents on the border and
urges the OSCE MG co-chairs to use all available resources to overcome
the obstacles Azerbaijan creates to impede approval of the given
mechanisms," the Ministry says in the statement.
The Investigation Service of the Defense Ministry initiated
proceedings on the basis of Article 104.2.6 and 104.2.13 (murder on
religious, racial and religious motives with a device or course of
action that would normally be hazardous to the lives of more).
Investigation is underway.
The Ministry shares the grief of the families of the killed soldier
Norayr Petrosyan, and wishes sooner recovery to the wounded soldier
Arthur Asoyan.
