HOW POLICEMAN HARASSED ACTIVIST - VIDEO
Country - Wednesday, 28 August 2013, 10:04
The deputy chief of police of Yerevan Valery Osipyan told reporters
today that the policeman who harassed the citizen in the photo
explained the incident otherwise. "He explained that they wanted to
rip off his insignia, and it is not what you think and it is not true."
In the video it is clearly seen that the policeman was holding the
girl's neck with one hand, and the waist with the other hand.
During the press conference, Shoghik Melkonyan, the lady in the photo
told: "He was following me, playing a helpful policeman and tried to
have me walk away from the street, he said I wasn't feeling well,
I needed some water. I didn't even feel how it happened. I learned
later when my friends showed me the photo. One of my friends came and
took me away but since the policeman was following me all the time,
saying "you're not feeling well, what do you need, do you want me to
bring some water?", he used my weakness not to miss the chance. Even
a group of red beret policemen tried to get me in the police car by
force, I resisted, and the chief of Arabkir precinct Araik Petrosyan
came up to me, and spoke in my ear on purpose not to let others hear
his term of abuse, and to make one ashamed to tell others what he
said, and when they were trying to get me into the car, he whispered
abuse, which I immediately reported. I urge all the women and girls
who were abused by Araik not to be ashamed and shout it loud because
it is not our words to be ashamed of repeating them. It is the only
way of handling such cases."
Either Valery Osipyan did not see the video or he is reluctant to
admit that the policeman abused the citizen, which is a crime.
