EX-PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE VARDAN SEDRAKYAN'S INVOLVEMENT IN RIVAL'S ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION NOT PROVED - LAWYER

The ex-presidential candidate Vardan Sedrakyan's involvement in
the attempted assassination of the ex-presidential candidate Paruyr
Hayrikyan is not directly proved, Sedrakyan's lawyer Alexander Sirunyan
stated in court on Tuesday.
Specifically, Armenia's Criminal Code does not contain a definition
of "paymaster of contract murder." Even if it did, no evidence is
available to prove that Vardan Sedrakyan was one.
Sirunyan stressed that it was a politically motivated crime, which
was aimed against both a person and the political system.
Hayrikyan and Sedrakyan had never had any disagreements. The
investigation has not identified the person that could benefit from
the attack.
The investigation has not proved Khachik Poghosyan's intention to
murder Paruyr Hayrikyan either.
On January 31 night, an attempted assassination of one of the
presidential candidates, Paruyr Hayrikyan, took place in Yerevan.
Khachatur Poghosyan and Samvel Harutyunyan have been charged with
the crime, with Vardan Sedrakyan believed to be the mastermind.
