168 ZHAM: ARF-D REP CONFIRMS POSSIBLE AMBASSADORIAL APPOINTMENT PLANS
11:45 31.08.13
The political affairs director of the opposition Armenian Revolutionary
Federation-Dashnakutyun (ARF-D) has confirmed earlier reports about
the party's plans ofappointing two representatives ambassadors to
foreign states.
In comments to the paper, Giro Manoyan said that the fact doesn't mean
at all that the party is concluding a deal with the ruling authorities
or taking sides with them. "The fact that we will have ambassadors
from ARF-D in the person of Vahan Hovhannesyan and Levon Lazarian
doesn't mean we'll cease being opposition," he was quoted as saying.
"We quit the [governing] coalition because we didn't agree to the
policies pursued by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan. The foreign policy
domain was the only thing left, and seeing we had no more influence
there, we thought it pointless to remain [in the coalition].
Dashnaksutyun is ready to collaborate with different forces, but that
doesn't mean we have to join coalitions. My opinion is that we will
never be in a coalition where we are not needed. If these coalition
partners think it necessary to give us a couple of posts without any
influence, that's not something we what. We seek to be influential. It
is Dashnaksutyun's principle to work in that manner; we will never
join they coalition where we will have no voice or no influence.
That's my personal viewpoint. The party will express its position
on the issue in case the reports are confirmed or denied," he said,
not ruling out any possibility.
