SAMVEL ALEXANYAN'S TROUBLE
Samvel Alexanyan's trouble is that he is the only oligarch who covers
the government's expenses (state and personal). The other oligarchs
are involved in court cases, having big problems and cannot pay the
old bills. The other "old friends" have stopped paying, they are
watching from afar.
Samvel Alexanyan is the court oligarch and enjoys all the favors
of the court. The ex-chief architect of Yerevan Narek Sargsyan has
confessed that they have been unable to influence Samvel Alexanyan
regarding the Covered Market who does not care for the City Hall,
the Ministry of Culture or others. Narek Sargsyan did not addressed
to the public but to Samvel Alexanyan, thus letting him know that
nothing will prevent him from finishing the construction.
The problem is, however, that court's favorite usually end up badly.
Yesterday someone has broken the cars used in illegal construction
at 5 Komitas Street. A few months ago people broke the machinery
exploring uranium in Syunik. A few months ago the villagers of Marts
rolled the pipes of the future water power station into the gorge. Now
the citizens of Yerevan are forming a movement to dismantle the new
constructions at the Covered Market.
Samvel Alexanyan is the symbol of the oligarchy and he will remain one
as long as the government needs him as a wallet. However, everything
is changing, so the government may gain new sources of funding that
will require pushing the oligarchs off the pedestal. At that time,
Samvel Alexanyan will become the symbol of the fallen oligarchy.
