Senior research fellow of the Scientific-Technical Center of Organic
and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, National Academy of Science of Armenia,
the founder, the President and the Executive Officer of the National
Fund of Science and Advanced Technologies, Haroutyun Karapetyan
has refused from the President's Prize. The scientist became the
President's Prize winner in the sphere of natural sciences in 2007.
In his open letter provided to ArmInfo, the scientist says that he
will return the certificate and the medal, and the money prize he
received jointly with Aram Petrosyan and Ruben Apreyan for a series
of scientific articles on the topic "Growth and investigation of new
class of nonlinear optical crystals".
The scientist disagrees with the government policy in the sphere of
science. "The negative elements in the given policy clearly reflect
the criminal and oligarchic system in the country."
Karapetyan believes that in the sphere of science "there is prospering
corruption, protectionism, embezzlement of budget funds and group
approaches." He thinks, "the authorities promote brain drain from
the country."
