Green activists of the Armenian Diaspora are ready to seriously study
negative sides of the mining industry development in Armenia.
As the known activist, Mariam Sukhudyan, told Arminfo correspondent,
several physicians of the Armenian Diaspora want to arrive in Armenia
and study the affect of the mining industry development on the health
of the residents the villages near the mines. She drew attention to
the fact that there is practically no official information about this
problem. For this reason, the population do not have an opportunity to
assess risks because of the mining.
She said that in Armenia chiefly open mining is used, which increases
much the negative affect upon ecology and people's health. The mining
companies are not going to pass to the close mining, as it requires
big financial expenses and is less beneficial.
To show the real situation in Armenia, activists of the Diaspora have
been drawing out a web site which will inform about the number of the
open mines in Armenia and give other information on the matter. Young
scientists of Armenia will also show their aid, as they are ready to
deliver materials about the affect of heavy metals upon soil.
"At present we have got a new generation ready to break the wall of
silence of official structures about the affect of the mining industry
upon nature and people's health. However, we understand that a
systemized approach, legislative changes and the control over
fulfillment of the letter of the law is required here", - Sukhudyan
said.
