ISTANBUL. - There are no arrests so far in connection with the
attacks, ever since December 2012, against the elderly Armenian women
in Istanbul's densely-Armenian-populated Samatya district. Istanbul's
Agos Armenian weekly's Armenian section editor Sarkis Seropyan told
this to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
He noted that they submitted inquiries to the law enforcement
agencies, and the latter's investigation concluded that these
misdemeanors were not planned actions against Armenians, but rather
random cases of burglary. Seropyan added, however, that the majority
of the people have suspicions and concerns that these actions were
directed against the Armenians.
The Agos editor informed that, at present, the Armenians living in
Samatya district are concerned and the elderly are afraid to go out
alone. Also, he noted that the situation in Samatya is somewhat tense,
and the police are patrolling the district.
Sarkis Seropyan added that they will be unrelenting in this matter and
everything must be done to arrest the criminals.
