YEREVAN, JULY 18, ARMENPRESS: To bring American tourists to Armenia
it is necessary to reduce the prices for the air tickets and raise
the awareness level about the Armenian places of interest.
This was reported to Armenpress by the Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of
Armenia John Heffern. The diplomat noted that Armenia is a unique
country, adding: "There are very many interesting places here, for
example, Noravank, which is quite popular in the world.
There are places having a history of some 4-5,000 years, as, for
example, Areni Cave, which is a wonderful place for the visitor. It is
worth mentioning that for a tourist it is very interesting to visit
villages and get acquainted with the life of the villagers - to see
the bee breeder or the sculptor at his work. It is very interesting
to see their works", - said John Heffern. The Ambassador Extraordinary
and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of
Armenia stated that the program of the Black Sea Corridor of the Silk
Road aims at presenting the Armenia's beautiful places andvillages
to the world.
Answering the question - do not the closed borders hinder the
development of tourism in Armenia - John Heffern said: "Definitely
and we continue working on it".
The Republic of Armenia has a great potential for the development
of tourism. There are uncountable historical and cultural monuments
in the territory of Armenia. The Government of Armenia declared the
tourism development as a priority issue. In 2012 Armenia was visited
by more than 840,000 tourists.
