Armenia's national postal service Haypost has agreed to provide
taxpayer service points within its post offices, under a deal with
state tax authorities.
Haypost signed an agreement yesterday with the State Revenue Committee
(SRC) to improve its access to taxpayers.
All post offices that are refurbished and modernized will have taxpayer
service points established, according to the deal.
The new joint programme aims to improve tax services for customers
while also improving service efficiency and taxpayers' knowledge of
tax and related regulations.
State Revenue Committee representatives will be stationed at each
taxpayer service point, but the programme will aim to promote the
development of a self-assessment system for taxpayers.
SRC chairman Gagik Khachatryan said: "Considering that Haypost has
the biggest network of branches among all companies in Armenia, the
establishment of SRC service centres will allow citizens to benefit
from tax and customs services in their local areas."

Khachatryan suggested that the cooperation deal with Haypost could
pave the way for more government services to be offered through
Armenia's post offices.
Juan Pablo Gechidjian, the director general of Haypost Tryst
Management, said the partnership agreement was in line with his
company's strategy.
"It is important not only to improve the quality of services provided
to customers, but also to expand the range of services available,"
he said. "This joint project will help us realise our goal that
before the end of 2013 more than 200 Haypost post offices will have
been renovated."
The agreement between the SRC and Haypost was enabled by improvements
in the SRC's IT system made as part of reforms making it possible to
provide services in potentially any location in Armenia.
Previously, services had to be accessed from SRC's head office in
the Armenian capital, Yerevan.
SRC assistants at post office taxpayer service points will be able to
make tax calculations and submit reports via the IT network. Taxpayer
services will be free of charge, the SRC said.
In future, the service could include the ability to carry out customs
clearance activities related to export and import of postal items.
