What is going on in Armenia today is being provoked from abroad, Deputy
Chairman of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia Razmik Zohrabyan
said in an interview to Azatutyun, when asked to comment on the public
protests that followed the Yerevan authorities' recent decision to
raise the public transport fare in the city from 100 AMD to 150 AMD.
"Our people must be wise enough not to rebel against a 50 AMD rise. We
have much more serious problems to solve, while those protests may
cause instability in our country. Those young people with posters
must understand that all this is being provoked from abroad. Armenia
is weak and can be easily manipulated. Today our region has become
a battlefield of civilizations. Armenia is squeezed in between the
European Union and Russia and is facing a dilemma: who to join -
the EU's
Association Agreement or Russia's Eurasian Union. We will have to thank
God if this rise proves to be our only trouble," Zohrabyan said.- 0-
