TURKISH AUTHORITIES LEARNT THE LESSON OF ARAB SPRING - EXPERT
June 05, 2013 | 16:24
YEREVAN. - Actions staged in Turkey differ considerably from a regular
Arab Spring, arabist Armen Petrosyan said.
He believes there are two crucial differences: first, unlike Turkey,
new authorities in the Arab states took the islamist direction.
Secondly, considerable involvement of the Persian Gulf states was
observed.
"Such involvement has not been observed in case of Turkey yet,"
he told reporters on Wednesday.
Turkish authorities learnt the lesson of Arab Spring and started
persecution in social networks.
"Even if Turkey processes become similar to the Arab Spring
developments, Prime Minister Erdogan will act just as Syrian President
Bashar al-Assad does," Petrosyan added.
Police used violence against protest action in Taksim Square of
Istanbul which was followed by uprising throughout the country. Around
2,000 people were arrested and dozens were injured during the clashes.
Environmental mottos turned into political ones demanding Erdogan's
resignation.
