Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian has again accused
Azerbaijan of declining all peace initiatives advanced by international
mediators to settle the protracted conflict in Karabakh, suggesting
that Baku and the international community are speaking "different
languages".
In an interview with the Austrian news agency, the top Armenian
diplomat visiting Vienna said that Azerbaijan even rejects confidence
building measures, such as strengthening the ceasefire, withdrawing
snipers and creating mechanisms to investigate ceasefire violations.
"They have an illusion that with the help of revenues from petrol and
natural gas they can buy everything: friends on the international arena
and beneficial resolutions for them. Why the settlement process hasn't
succeeded till now? Because the international community and Azerbaijan
speak different languages," said Nalbandian in an extended interview.
"While we have gathered in Vienna to promote the dialogue between
civilizations, the civilizational abyss between Azerbaijan and the
international community is deepening," stressed the Armenian foreign
minister, pointing at cases of propagation of intolerance and hatred
in the neighboring republic, including the glorification of an
axe-murderer of an Armenian and an Azeri novelist being persecuted
for presenting Armenians in a positive light.
Nalbandian also stressed that Turkey cannot have a role as a mediator
in the process as it unilaterally advocates Azerbaijan. "If Turkey
has a willingness to promote a peaceful settlement, it had better not
intervene in this process at all," stressed the top Armenian diplomat.
