The opposition Heritage party's press secretary has dismissed the
report that their leader has declined President Serzh Sargsyan's
invitation for a meeting.
Speaking to Tert.am, Hovsep Khurshudyan said that Raffi Hovhannisian
wished to meet the president at the Liberty Square where he is now
holding a hunger-strike. "There was really an offer delivered by
the head of the presidential staff. And Raffi Hovhannisian did not
decline that offer. He just expressed willingness to have a meeting
at Liberty Square," Khurshudyan explained.
A spokesperson for the Armenian leader, Armen Arzumanyan, told
Panorama.am earlier today that the former opposition candidate
turned down the invitation for having a meeting with Serzh Sargsyan
to discuss the post-electoral development.
Asked whether the offer was made before or after the Sunday rally,
Khurshudyan said it was made after the event.
Before declaring his plan for a hunger-strike, Hovhannisian said he
was ready to meet with the president in any place to listen to his
counter-offers towards resolving the current political crisis. But the
Heritage leader had not voiced such a proposal before the recent rally.
