Former residents of Kond district of Yerevan with posters "Misled
residents of secure Armenia" are protesting outside the government
building. They demand that the government solve their housing issue.
The houses of over 200 families were demolished in Kond district
which was declared area of eminent domain. Downtown company which was
to take care about the housing issues of those evicted families has
not finished the construction of apartments in that area. Though last
year Mayor of Yerevan said that the successor organization of Downtown
would be set up which would finish construction, there is no progress.
The residents of Kond wonder when construction will finish and
why their rent is not reimbursed. Government's spokesman Alexander
Ghazaryan talked to the citizens saying that they presented a request
to the government last Thursday, and it will be discussed within 15
days. But Kond residents do not believe the government's promises since
they have been told the same thing by the City Hall and government
for already 4 years.
