AZERBAIJANI IMPRISONED MINISTER WINS THE CASE AGAINST AZERBAIJANI GOVERNMENT IN ECHR

YEREVAN, MARCH 14, ARMENPRESS: European Court of Human Rights (ECHR)
has published today decision in the case of former Health Minister,
Ali Insanov, reports Armenpress, referring to "Turan'.
The Court found a violation of the rights of Insanov guaranteed by
Article 3 (prohibition of torture) and Article 6 (right to a fair
hearing), and ordered to pay compensation in the amount of 10,000
euros, according to Togrul Babayev, Insanov's lawyer. According to
him, Azerbaijani government may within three months make a complaint
to the Grand Chamber of the ECHR. If it is not approved, the plenum
of the Supreme Court should decide to cancel unlawful judgments
against Insanov.
Insanov was arrested in 2005 on charges of attempting to overthrow
the government. Subsequently, however, he was sentenced to 11 years
in prison on charges of theft and embezzlement of state property.
