Armenian poetess and publicist Violet Grigoryan has declared a
one-day hunger-strike in support of Raffi Hovhannisyan, the opposition
Heritage party's leader who was Serzh Sargsyan's key rival in last
month's presidential election.
Speaking to Tert.am from Yerevan's Liberty Square, the writer said
she will seek to attract larger crowds of people to the campaign.
"I don't crave for much with a day's hunger-strike and don't expect
my move to be contagious, but I think it is symbolic and capable of
influencing certain people," he said.
Grigoryan believes many co-thinkers do not simply know what to do to
extend their support to the popular movement. "They think hunger-strike
is a difficult thing, but let me note there is the practice of a
one-day hunger-strike, so they can be involved in a way," she said,
stressing the importance of demonstrating willingness.
Grigoryan said she has never been indifferent to the developments
in Armenia.
"I have actively taken part in civil initiatives by writing and so on.
In the current political situation, I find it is important to support
Raffi Hovhannisian," she said adding that her hunger-strike is aimed
at supporting Hovhannisian rather than protesting the election results
which are widely believed to be fraudulent.
