PARENTAL WORKSHOPS DEDICATED TO SAFE INTERNET TO BE HELD AT SCHOOLS

    14-03-2013 18:19:19 | Armenia | Science and Technology

Events envisaged in the scope of the "Safe Internet Armenia 2013"
large-scale joint program of Orange Armenia, the Center for Media
Education and the Internet Society are underway. Today starts the stage
of parental workshops, aiming to raise awareness of the parnets of
pupils on safe internet, to give them knowledge and tools to exercise
control over the online content consumed by their underage children,
to protect them from all potential virtual dangers.

"As a leading mobile internet provider in Armenia we care for our
customers by providing them with keys to safe internet use. Nowadays
children are mastering internet skills more quickly and for parents
it is sometimes difficult to control their children's online behaviour.

Orange customers may acquire necessary software solutions to safe
internet use. As a responsible company we were happy to join this
large-scale educational program, which will help many parents with
specific and practical advice," said Nazareth Seferian, CSR and
    Philanthropy Expert at Orange Armenia.

Giving importance to safe internet use, since last year Orange has
been supporting not only training and educational courses, which aim
to raise everyone's awareness on current internet-related issues and
provide practical information, but also in partnership with Kaspersky
Labs has made available Kaspersky Internet Security softawre to its
customers since already last year, which ensures protection of children
from sites with irrelevant content. The above software solution can
be acquired both from Orange shops and straight from the interface
of Internet Now modem. Many Orange customers are already benefiting
    from this solution.

"Internet can become a powerful educational and creative mean for
youngest members of the family. When installing the computer in
an accessible place and defining rules for common use, we will help
children to be safe when surfing the internet" said Narine Khachatryan,
the Deputy Director of the Center for Media Education.

All those concerned about the nature and safety of the online
content their children consume may visit www.safe.am, where necessary
information and advice on safe internet use can be found in Armenian.

This year in the scope of the "Safe Internet" project about 200
teachers and over 3000 pupils from 150 schools will participate to
an open lesson. It is planned to enroll 3000 parents in parental
    workshops.

As a reminder, last year in the scope of the same project 300 teachers
from Yerevan and RA marzes were trained, and over 6000 pupils, instead
of the anticipated 5000, participated to an open lesson. Since the
launch of the project www.safe.am has been visited by over 12 000
users, safe internet game has been opened over 7 000 times and the
Internet literacy handbooks and parent guides have been downloaded
    over 4 000 times.
