Chairman of Union of Consumers Armen Poghosyan does not consider it
surprising that the prices for eggs, fish and even rice and raisins
go up on the eve of Easter.
"On the eve of holidays, be it New Year, Easter, the prices usually go
up. According to our approximate observations, the products relating to
Easter have gone up by 10%," he said speaking to reporters on Thursday.
The chairman of the union said the prices for eggs have gone up by
20 drams.
Speaking about the causes, Poghosyan said the State Revenue Committee
plays a significant role here. "If an enterprise or an entrepreneur
has decided to sell the products with higher prices there is no law
that will ban them doing it. The problem is in taxing the profit. If
it is taxed correctly - higher taxes for higher prices - they will not
do it. But as far as there is no control such picture is registered,"
he said.
At the news conference It has been stressed that an attempt was made
to invite representative of the State Commission for the Protection
of Economic Competition but none responded to the invitation.
Armen Poghosyan said this circumstance shows that everything is more
than clear and if it was not so they would have come and refuted his
words. "We have so many establishments that should follow the prices
but they avoid speaking to media," he said.
He registered that besides the obvious inflation there is also hidden
inflation. "For instance in case of bread they are cheating in weight,
the same is with sugar," he said.
