KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Two Kansas City men have been charged with the
March 21st murder of Aaron Markarian, who was shot and killed during a
robbery and home invasion.
Anthony J. Williams, 21, and Alonzo D. Ruff, 20, were each charged
with one count of second-degree murder, three counts of first-degree
assault, one count of first-degree robbery and five counts of armed
criminal action.
According to police, Williams and Ruff shot and killed Markarian and
injured three others in a home located at 49th and Brookside Blvd. on
March 21. Friends said the victims were roommates and were having a
birthday party at the time of the home invasion.
Court papers said Williams and Ruff barged into the home after ringing
the doorbell. One man wore a mask and carried a machete while the
other was armed with a gun. Makarkian died from his injuries. Another
man suffered critical injuries but is expected to survive. Two women
were also shot and injured, but will recover. Court documents said the
victims recognized Ruff from high school.
Markarian was a student at the University of Missouri-Kansas
City. University officials described him as a gifted actor and singer
at its Conservatory of Music and Dance.
