VARTAN OSKANIAN: KEY GOAL IS TO LIQUIDATE POLITICAL MONOPOLY IN ARMENIA AT MAY 5 ELECTIONS

    ARMINFO
    Friday, May 3, 02:50

The key goal at the May 5 elections is to liquidate the political
monopoly, which is the main obstacle in the way of development of
independent Armenia, Vartan Oskanian, former foreign minister of
Armenia, who leads the party ticket of the Prosperous Armenia Party
(PAP), said during the PAP's rally in Liberty Square in Yerevan.

"This is why we believe that the upcoming elections to the Elders'
Council of Yerevan are of political significance. If we manage to
settle this problem all by ourselves or jointly with other opposition
forces, the new mayor of Yerevan will become a real alternative to
the incumbent power. The authorities of Yerevan and the Government
of Armenia will start controlling each other and this will have a
positive effect on the whole republic", said Oskanian.

To recall, 6 parties and 1 bloc will participate in the elections
to the Elders' Council of Yerevan: Republican Party of Armenia,
Prosperous Armenia Party, Orinats Yerkir Party, Armenian National
Congress, Arakelutyun Party, ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party, and Barev
Yerevan Bloc. The elections will be held on 5 May 2013. Experts expect
    a low turnout.
