Returning labor migrants infect their wives with HIV in Armenia

YEREVAN. - Famous Armenian actors and celebrities, Sos Djanibekian,
Arman Nshanyan, Lusine Badalyan, and Arevik Udumyan urged young people
to research HIV and find out their own HIV status.
The celebrities who joined the AIDS fight decided to serve as an
example and on May 8 decided to undergo the tests in AIDS prevention
center.
Almost in all countries of the world famous and popular people,
including Kofi Annan, Bill Gates, Vladimir Pozner, Richard Gere, Elton
John, Ani Lorak, Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela, helped the public to
learn about HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) transmission and
HIV-related human rights.
On April 30, in Armenia 1,445 HIV infection cases were recorded, but
the infection has a tendency to increase. Only in 2012, 228 HIV cases
were registered, which is the highest rate in Armenia, compared to all
previous years.
An average portrait of HIV infected person in Armenia in the last 3-4
years is either a 30-39 years old male labor migrant or a 20-29 years
old female, whose husband is a labor migrant, and who was infected by
her husband.
