festival `National Gallery'

YEREVAN, MAY 10, ARMENPRESS. String Quartet after Edward Mirzoyan
will perform in the frames of the 9th international music festival
`National Gallery' on May 12. Armenpress informs that the quartet will
perform E. Mirzoyan's `Topic and Variations' and Shostakovich's
`Quartet N 8.'
The idea of creating a string quartet - whose name would be linked
with famous Armenian composer Edward Mirzoyan - from the solo
performers of the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra occurred long ago.
The idea was realized through a close cooperation of members - many
prize winners of international competitions, solo performers of State
Symphony Orchestra `New Russia' (principle conductor and artistic
director Yuri Bashmet) and Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra (principal
conductor and artistic director Edward Topchyan).
Armenian great composer Edward Mirzoyan was one of the great composers
of the 20th century.
