ESTABLISHMENT OF CSTO ACADEMY IN ARMENIA LOGICAL - EXPERT

Chairman of Armenia's Union of Political Scientists Hmayak Hovhannisyan
considers logical the establishment of a Collective Security Treaty
Organization (CSTO) academy in Armenia.
"It is logical because Armenia borders Turkey, a NATO member-state,
and has no diplomatic relations with it. Armenia is one of the
CSTO member-states, with a CSTO jumping-off place located here,"
he told Tert.am.
The issue was discussed at Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan's meeting
with CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha on Monday.
Mr Hovhannisyan believes that the new academy will facilitate the
training and retraining of relevant personnel.
"Of course, it will play its role for Armenia by ensuring the necessary
quality of education and training necessary personnel. This is one of
the programs that must be launched given Armenia's clear-cut position -
developing cooperation in various areas within the CSTO," he said.
Since national security is a priority for Armenia, active involvement
in programs will ensure the country's closer cooperation with the
other CSTO member-nations, particularly with Russia, in consolidating
Armenia's security.
