ARMENIANS CANNOT BENEFIT FROM REFORMS IN TURKEY - EXPERT

Expert in Turkic studies Artak Shakaryan held a meeting with
journalists on Wednesday and dwelt on the democratization process
and the national minorities' state in Turkey.
The package envisages unity between Turkish Prime Minister Recep
Erdogan's party and Kurds. All the best is being done to meet most
of the Kurds' demands.
"The reforms will allow them to teach and learn their mother tongue and
open Sunday schools like Armenian schools," Shakaryan said. One more
important factor is that Kurds can restore their toponyms preserved
since 1980s.
The complicated mechanism of election to Parliament does not allow
Kurdish parties to get into Parliament even if they poll 30% to 40%
of votes.
Premier Erdogan is thus trying to win Kurds' favor and turn the entire
country into a single member constituency.
On the other hand, Armenians cannot in any way benefit from the
reforms. The only positive step is that the aforementioned package
envisages the abolition of the oath practiced in Turkey's schools.
