ARMENIAN LOBBY FALLS BEHIND TURKISH ONE IN GERMANY - GENOCIDE RECOGNITION GROUP MEMBER
October 11, 2013 | 12:12
YEREVAN. - The lobbying of the Armenian community in Germany is
very weak; it does not have the strength and capabilities of the
Turkish side.
Zhirayr Kocharyan, member of the working group on the Armenian Genocide
recognition in Germany, stated the aforesaid during a press conference
on Friday.
He reflected on the Berlin-Armenian community's preparations in the
context of the approaching 100th anniversary of the genocide.
"Our community tries to face the Turkish lobby through books and
lectures. At the same time, the German intelligentsia and press [do]
accept the fact of the perpetration of Genocide," Kocharyan added.
But he noted with regret that the Armenians are scattered all through
Germany and there is not a German city where more than 2,000 Armenians
live.
"The objective of our activities is not to achieve Genocide
recognition, but rather its condemnation by Germany's four million
Turks," Zhirayr Kocharyan stressed.
To note, about four million Turks live in Germany, whereas the
country's Armenian community comprises solely around 45,000 people.
