SAMVEL FARMANYAN: TIME WILL GIVE ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS IN ARMENIA-EU RELATIONS
by Marianna Lazarian
Wednesday, October 16, 17:39
Today one can unambiguously assess neither the Armenia-EU relations
nor their further development, Samvel Farmanyan, MP from the ruling
Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), said at the Oct 16 conference
entitled "Four Years of Eastern Partnership: Achievements and
Challenges".
"For the moment, the future of the Armenian-European relations looks
vague, but it will be specified after the Eastern Partnership Summit
in Vilnius", he stressed.
He thinks that there are several reasons that have made Armenia
change its foreign political vector. He considers that the Armenia-EU
relations cannot be separated from the ongoing geopolitical processes,
including the unsuccessful restart of the Armenian-Turkish relations,
the critical situation in the Middle East, as well as the ongoing
processes around Iran and Syria. In the meantime, Farmanyan said that
Armenia's striving for European integration was sincere.
"Armenian businessmen have not been informed of the benefits they
can get from one or another economic project. I think the given fact
should not be ignored", he said.
Farmanyan stressed that there is no alternative to the Armenia-EU
cooperation. He suggested making a pause before Eastern Partnership
Summit until some documentary arrangements are achieved. "Time will
clear the air", said Farmanyan.
