WILL ARCHBISHOP PARGEV BE DEFROCKED?
The archbishop of Artsakh Pargev Martirosyan could be defrocked
following his support to Zori Balayan's letter calling Russia to
eliminate NKR and annex Karabakh.
As the primate of the Diocese of Artsakh Pargev Martirosyan has always
had certain independence, considering the statehood and special role
of Karabakh in the life of Armenians. This circumstance has always
irritated Garegin II. Their relations have never been smooth.
Now Garegin II has apparently discerned in Pargev's statement his
aspiration to be the next catholicos. It is known that after the
Treaty of Gulistan which Zori Balayan has mentioned in his letter,
the Catholicosate of Aghvank was eliminated by Echmiadzin. Apparently,
Pargev is getting ready for something similar by supporting the letter.
Besides, since the Armenian Apostolic Church refers to itself as the
safeguard of the Armenian state, it seems even more likely that Pargev
will be defrocked.
Although, the clergymen ruling the church have never hesitated to
hand over the country to invaders.
