MEETING IN THE NA STANDING COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN RELATIONS
19.10.2013
On October 19 the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign
Relations Artak Zakaryan met with the representatives of the
International European Movement.
The Secretary of the International European Movement Diego Pinto
noted that the goal of their visit to Armenia was to promote the
rapprochement of relations between the civil societies of the
two neighbor countries, Armenia and Azerbaijan, the creation of
the atmosphere of trust. Diego Pinto noted that the Movement had
implemented different programmes in the Balkans, Eastern Europe,
promoting the dialogue between the conflicting societies during
different conflicts and after them and the formation of the atmosphere
of trust. The Secretary of the International European Movement noted
that they would try to carry out the same thing in the South Caucasus,
and especially in the societies of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The representative of Azerbaijan said that through this Movement an
opportunity had been given to him to visit Armenia and get acquainted
with the Armenian society and going back to Azerbaijan he would tell
them about the Armenians' kind and warm attitude.
Highlighting the goal of their visit to Armenia the Chairman of the
NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations welcomed their efforts and
deemed necessary the active role of the international organizations
in the establishment of relations between the Armenian-Azerbaijani
societies. According to Arak Zakaryan, the readiness of only one side
is not sufficient for the creation of the atmosphere of trust and
the establishment of dialogue: it is necessary that the Azerbaijani
authorities would realize and highlight it. "I have also said about
this during a parliamentary meeting in Baku last year," the Committee
Chairman said. Artak Zakaryan noted that every year the society of
Armenia reads anti-Armenian propaganda, speeches on the atmosphere
of hatred and war coming from Azerbaijan. And it cannot have a good
reflection on the peaceful settlement of the conflict.
The Committee Chairman has noted that the Armenian side does the utmost
for solving the Nagorno Karabakh conflict through peaceful means, and
he hopes that the efforts made by the Movement will serve to its goal.
