Ruling Republican Party spokesman and Deputy Speaker of the Armenian
Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov has described the latest resolution of
the European Parliament accusing Armenia of "occupying Azeri lands"
as a product of "Azerbaijani caviar diplomacy", according to Tert.am.
Talking to the news website, he stressed that one of the co-authors
of the motion, Italian MEP Pino Arlacchi, for example, is known to
have praised the conduct of the October 9 presidential elections in
Azerbaijan and described the country as "the most democratic".
Sharmazanov also reminded that it is the OSCE Minsk Group that has
the international mandate for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict and that the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing nations have made no
reference in their statements to the UN Security Council resolutions.
The senior lawmaker stressed that the 1993 resolutions had been adopted
to stop the war and so could not be helpful in settling the conflict.
