The compulsory accumulative pension system imposed in Armenia on Jan
1 2014 is a state-level racket, member of Prosperous Armenia Party
Naira Zohrabyan said during a rally of opposition parties and NGOs on
Saturday.
"The Government lies when it says that this system meets the people's
interests. It meets the interests of the ruling regime, who just needs
more money," Zohrabyan said.
She urged all opposition forces to unite. "Only together will we be
able to win the ruling regime and to build a different Armenia - a
country that nobody will emigrate from any more," she said.
Representatives of the I Am Against civic initiative said that the law
imposing the system is contrary to Armenia's Constitution. "It will
result in 6.6-13% cut in our wages. So, we must demand that the
Government revoke this law," they said.
Almost 7,000 people representing different parties, NGOs and civic
initiatives have gathered in Liberty Square with slogans like We Are
the Owners of Our Own Country!, We Are Against! and Unity!-
