AMBASSADOR: "TURKEY MAY COOPERATE WITH ARMENIAN OR OTHER DIASPORA ORGANIZATIONS, BUT IT WILL NEVER BE DIRECTED AGAINST AZERBAIJAN'S INTERESTS"

Gulnar Bashirova; Our relationship with Armenia, or any country and
Diaspora contrary to the interests of Azerbaijan is out of question,"
Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ismayil Alper Coskun told APA
while commenting on the fact that Armenians and Armenian Diaspora
organizations are often invited to the events in Turkey. The ambassador
said that Turkey is the only state that Azerbaijan can rely on without
hesitation and doubt.
The ambassador said he is aware of media reports on this issue and
noted that he realizes Azerbaijan's sensitivity well: "But you should
know it very well that none in Turkey can take steps contradicting
Azerbaijan's interests. Turkey may cooperate with Armenian or
other Diaspora organizations, but it will never be directed against
Azerbaijan's interests. We have common interests with Azerbaijan. All
activities regarding this issue can not be covered in media, but it
doesn't mean that we are in different position with Azerbaijan. I
want you to know that we share the same position with Azerbaijan."
Commenting on Armenian Science and Education Minister's proposal
to rename the Republic of Armenia as Eastern Armenia thus raising
territorial claims against Turkey, Ambassador said it is useless to be
dreamer, issue statements contradicting the norms of the international
law, statements contradicting the intentions to establish long-sighted
relations in the region.
"Turkey supports establishment of territorial integrity in the region,
existence in sovereign conditions, establishment of future in line
with normal, common interests. I am sure that Azerbaijan also shares
this position. If Armenia wants to assist, it should understand
that occupation must be ended, Armenian youth should not be given
wrong messages."
