EXPERT: BASHAR ASSAD'S VICTORY AT THE ELECTION HAS HASTENED THE ENDING OF THE CONFLICT IN SYRIA

Bashar Assad's victory at the election has hastened the ending of
the conflict in Syria, Armenia's former ambassador to Syria, David
Hovhannisyan, told ArmInfo correspondent when commenting on the
presidential election in Syria, held on 3 June.
"Undoubtedly, after a regular vote of trust, Assad's potential for
settlement of the long-lasting conflict in Syria has grown much. His
legitimacy has also grown, and today it is hard to cast doubt upon it.
This legitimacy has given him an additional resource when fighting
opponents", - he said.
The presidential election in Syria demonstrated that the great
majority of the Syrians support Assad's policy. They also demonstrated
aspiration of the people to peace, restoration of Syria and liquidation
of the consequences of the war.
"Anyway, Assad's victory in the current conditions has no alternative.
Incidentally, the radicals fighting him have hastened his victory. The
people have been tired of the hot war lasting for 4 years...Earliar,
Assad's authoritarian regime gave an opportunity to the people to
live better, naturally, according to the fixed rules of the game. And
against the background of today's ruin, the pre-war years ruled by
Assad seem to be a paradise for the Syrians",- the expert concluded.
