"30-40 years ago, the number of conflict zones, then-existing refugees
and IDPs worldwide was 2-3 times less than it is now"
Baku. Konul Kamilqizi - APA. "Injustice is raging throughout the
world. As far as the world community will keep on turning a blind
eye to this injustice, such cases will continue and increase".
Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan and Chairman of State Committee of
the Republic of Azerbaijan for Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov made this
statement in his speech during the 12th Baku International Conference
of Ombudsmen on "The role of national human rights institutions in
ensuring the rights of women", APA reports.
According to Mr Hasanov, 30-40 years ago, the number of conflict zones,
then-existing refugees and IDPs was 2-3 times less than it is now:
"The number of refugees worldwide has exceeded 40 million today.
Over the last 30-40 years, a new term - internally displace person
(IDP) has emerged".
Hasanov said that if international organizations continue to work
in the same way, the member countries will begin to leave them:
"Why should I pay the membership fee every year if it fails to comply
with its decisions? Why do I need the organization in that case? Why
don't you fulfill the resolutions on recognition of our borders and
our territorial integrity?", he asked.
Addressing the representatives of the international organizations
Hasanov called them not to take offence. "We are talking about truths,
criticism is quite another. If we will start to criticize, most people
cannot tolerate it. We are talking about the facts. What is our fault?
Everyone wants to make use of our energy resources and benefit from
our natural resources but to give nothing in return. It is not right.
An aggressor should be called by its name", he noted.
Hasanov emphasized that today no one needs Armenia. "Armenia is a
non-developing state that has no value among the world's countries and
doesn't have its word and independent policy. Aggressor, chauvinist,
nationalist, separatist are the names of this state. Who needs such
a state?", he stressed.
