RUSSIAN FM COMMEMORATES 1915 ARMENIAN GENOCIDE VICTIMS IN YEREVAN

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov laid a wreath to the memorial
to the victims of the 1915 Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire
in Yerevan on Monday.
The minister came to Armenia on Sunday on a two-day official visit.
The memorial to the victims of the 1915 Armenian genocide in the
Ottoman Empire was built in 1967 on the orders from the leadership
of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic. It symbolizes the grief
for the victims of the manslaughter and deportation and the revival
of the Armenian people.
Russian President Vladimir Putin was the first leader of contemporary
Russia to visit the memorial on September 15, 2001. He visited the
memorial again on December 2, 2013, during his state visit to Armenia.
